FAQ
Everything you need to know before your first surprise.
How does the surprise rule work?
When someone claims one of your Ideas, you never see it. The claim is completely hidden from you — even after the occasion has passed. This is enforced at the server level, not just the interface, so there's no way around it.
Can my friends see what I've added to my Ninjist?
Yes — that's the whole point. Friends and family can view your Ideas and claim them secretly. You see the list of Ideas, but you never see who's claimed what or whether anything has been claimed at all.
What's the difference between SPECIFIC and EXAMPLE?
SPECIFIC means you want exactly that item — the precise product, colour, and size you've linked. EXAMPLE means you like the style or idea, and the person claiming it can use their judgement to find something similar.
How do I claim an Idea?
Open a friend's Ninjist, find an Idea you'd like to get them, and hit Claim. It's then marked as taken so nobody else buys the same thing — but the owner never sees this.
What are Groups and Occasions?
Groups let you organise the people you share with — your family, your work friends, your book club. Occasions are events like Christmas or a birthday. You can tag Ideas to specific Occasions so your list stays organised and relevant.
Is Ninjist free?
Yes. The core product is completely free. A Pro tier with additional features is in development — you can see what's planned on the Pricing page.
Does it work with any shop?
Yes. Paste any URL and Ninjist will pull in the product details automatically. Amazon, ASOS, Etsy, a small independent shop — if it has a web address, it works.
